Gene Autry - Part 1 of 3

Gene Autry (1907 –1998) was an American performer who gained fame as The Singing Cowboy on the radio, in movies, on television, on live theater and rodeo performances.

Gene Autry's career spanned some 70 years in the entertainment industry.

He recorded and wrote hundreds of songs; he was the most successful singing cowboy, completing 93 movies and starring in 91 television productions. Gene Autry was ranked among the most celebrated film stars and for years was considered to be the most popular Western film actor.

Gene Autry comics was first published by Fawcett in 1941, and Dell picked it up after 10 issues and ran 121 issues. Gene Autry#1 (Fawcett) is the most highly valued Western comic, selling at $7,000.00+ in near mint condition if one could find one for sale.

After Gene Autry #1, Bob Overstreet's Comic Book Price Guide lists Hopalong Cassidy #1 as the second most valuable of all western comics.
